Some friendships do not end with a bang; they end when you stop explaining away the same small cuts.
Disrespect often hides as “jokes”, forgetfulness, speaking over you, or only being kind when they want something.
The pattern is not one bad day; it is how they act after you name the problem.
Respect sounds like: “I hear you”, followed by different behaviour, not better excuses.
A useful test is simple: do you feel more like yourself after seeing them, or do you feel smaller and on guard?
Say it once, plainly: what happened, how it lands, what you need next time, and what you will do if it repeats.
When respect leaves, distance is not punishment; it is protection for the part of you that still believes you deserve care.
